One of the goals of social media marketing for your business is to build up a newsletter subscribers list. It is a simple method of creating a tool which is unique to your business and which you own entirely. I like to compare it to Organic and Paid Search where Newsletters use the Organic method for gaining more business.
Here are 7 reasons why I believe Email Marketing is still important to your business:
#7 – Newsletters belongs to your business. You are not renting the platform like you are with Social Media, you don’t have to pay to speak to potential customers you simply send an email and you are directly in their inbox.
#6 – It keeps your brand alive and in mind. You don’t write an email to sell products or services, you write it to keep the conversation going to keep your brand top of mind. Humans operate at a subconscious level on so many things everyday. Have you ever went out to buy something and noticed later that there were objects or similar names that relate back to that product were in your home or workplace; only realising after how coincidental it was. It’s not a coincidence, it’s your subconscious taking it all in. So rather than going about your regular offline business expecting your website to do all the work; start a regular newsletter and keep your brand in their inbox.
#5 – Users are more likely to be in a shopping mode via email – Yup that’s right, according to monetate.com who publishes reports that analyse traffic and conversion state that ‘Social media is categorically NOT a meaningful source of direct traffic to ecommerce website or of direct purchase conversions on those site’.
Only 0.71% of traffic comes from social media compared to Search at 1.95% and Email marketing at 3.19%
#4 – It’s an easy way to reach mobile customers – With a growing number of mobile phone users accessing email on their phone it’s an easy way to reach consumers without investing a lot in new technology or software. It’s free for consumers (rather than sms ads) and emails have far more space for content than text messages allowing for better marketing pieces.
#3 – Less Noise. Even for a brief moment, email marketing isn’t surrounded by noise. With so much going on in our daily lives, no matter what the context the user is in, email marketing is focussed and targeted. You’re speaking to them without ads, without information on what there friends might be doing and you’re speaking to them at a moment when they’re more accepting and aware of longer advertising messages (should they choose to open it).
#2 – It’s easy to customise and integrate into other marketing tactics. Emails can be personalised to include the name of the user and even more. You can link through all of your social media channels and content in one place to target your audience.
#1 – Value. All and all, it’s easy, effective and inexpensive. It allows business owners to reach a large number of consumers at a rate of cents per message. Hands down I value Email Marketing over Social Media or Paid advertising any day.
